Cheering For Christ

One thing that people love to do is cheer for their sports teams. Currently, the NFL playoffs are going on and you see people from all over the country rooting for their favorite team. One of the games I watched the other day was the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Miami Dolphins. The game was played in Kansas City and the temperature at kickoff was 5 degrees, but the stadium was still packed out with thousands of fans. People were willing to endure the freezing cold temperatures to go cheer on their team.

This determination is something that we see often in fans. When the season for a sporting event kicks off it is all we want to talk about. We find like-minded people to talk to and can spend hours talking about our favorite team. We have such pride and love for our teams that we just have to tell other people about it.

Why are we not the same way when it comes to talking about Jesus? 1 Peter 1:8 says,

“Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.” In this verse it talks about “rejoicing with joy that is inexpressible.”

If we are filled with that kind of joy then Jesus is all we should want to talk about. I know I’m filled with that joy when my team wins that week. When my team wins I make sure to tell everyone I see, but when it comes to Jesus we are not the same way. We have such a wonderful gift that God has given all people and that is the gift of salvation. It’s so wonderful that it should be so easy to share with other people because it is great news. Now we have to be willing to share it.
